Historical narratives by John William Calhoun are entitled "The Short and Simple Annals of the Poor" and "Trees on the Campus of the University of Texas." The first narrative gives an account of the way of life of poor whites in the hill country of southeastern middle Tennessee, 1870-1880; and the second contains narratives about the trees on the campus of the University of Texas, including photocopies of maps and photographs.
